The development of COSAI is rooted in the growing need for stronger public participation in coastal safety and the prevention of avoidable accidents, environmental damage and security risks.

Our mission is to promote and advance coastal safety, maritime security, environmental protection, and public awareness through advocacy, education, training, community engagement, research, and strategic partnerships, thereby protecting lives, livelihoods, coastal communities, marine ecosystems, and critical infrastructure across Nigeria.
We are committed to building a culture of safety and responsibility among coastal communities, maritime workers, road users, government institutions, businesses, and the general public, while supporting effective prevention, emergency preparedness, environmental conservation, and sustainable development of Nigeria’s coastal and maritime resources.
Our Areas of Interest Include
The integrated approach recognises that coastal safety is interconnected with environmental protection, transportation, public health, infrastructure, security, emergency management, and economic development.

- Maritime security awareness.
- Prevention of drowning and "water-related accidents;
- Safety education for coastal and riverine communities;
- Marine environmental protection;
- Pollution and oil-spill awareness;
- Safe use of boats and waterways;
- Emergency preparedness and response awareness;

Marine environmental protection is the practice of preserving and restoring the health of the world's oceans, seas, and coastal areas through laws, conservation limits, and pollution control.
